Things to do this month

1. Scarification
Lawns should be scarified at this time of year to remove thatch build up

2. Lawns
Continue grass cutting fortnightly if you have not yet scarified

3. Lawn Feeds
Apply an autumn feed, especially following scarification

4. Leaves
Continue to clear leaves from your lawns and pathways. Leaves do make a good mulch on your flower beds and boarders over the winter period

5. Roses
Prune roses by one third to prevent wind damage

6. Containers
Plant pots and containers for spring display

7. Privet Hedges
Cut privet hedges back into shape

8. Beds & Boarders
Dig over heavy clay soils

9. Vines
Prune outdoor vines such as Virginia Creeper and fruit vines

10. Plants
Remove spent annuals

November

leaves are falling...

Leaves are falling rapidly, and wind and rain are on the increase. Tender plants will need protecting from frost, gales and freezing rains. Move plants into the greenhouse, or into a sheltered spot, but if you can't, it is worth wrapping plants or pots. Remember winter can be a tough time for birds in terms of water and food, so keep supplies well topped up.
