The more areas you can find to leave a little untidy and overgrown will encourage wildlife to your garden. They do not need to be large areas that make your garden look untidy just a shady corner! Somewhere where you can place a few sticks for shelter in the undergrowth.

When the wood starts to decay, it then attracts another species of insect that is becoming more uncommon, particularly in the countryside. Species such as Stag and Bark Beetle are often attracted in addition to a wide range of other insects and grubs.

To attract a wide range of insects and grubs place a few large logs, together with sticks, in your undergrowth and these are ideal as they also provide a winter shelter for hibernation.

Again, you can have an area as small or as large as you wish, but once placed leave undisturbed and within a year or so you will have accomplished your goal, although the process will commence within a few days!

Leaves left in these areas over the winter months will also make a warm place for many insects and animals and help keep them safe from the cold British winters.
